To our Owners and loyal shoppers,
To start off with, we owe a huge thank you to the members of our community. You’ve supported us through the pandemic, and even after a year of challenges and uncertainties, have continued to stick by us. As you may have noticed the store has entered a period of transition, a transformation if you will. Our staff continues to provide the best possible customer service despite extreme labor shortages, facing not only our industry but across all sectors of industry currently. We remain grateful for the health and wellbeing of our Co-op staff and this wonderful community.
Here are key areas that we will continue to work on.
Service – We realize you are accustomed to a high level of service, knowledge and quality from Co-op staff. As we have made changes to our operations to better serve you, we have experienced changes in staffing throughout the organization. While staff turnover creates the opportunity to bring fresh eyes, perspectives and talents to the Co-op it also has caused inconsistency in a variety of our services.
Check out- We have all 5 registers open at peak hours of the day. It has been a challenge to keep them fully staffed in this time of transition to summer then again back to the school year so we appreciate your patience when the lines are long.
Deli & Bakery- We are working diligently to hire and train new staff in the deli to make all your favorite bakery, entrees, juices and salads consistently. The position of Deli Manager has not yet been filled, please encourage talented chefs in your circles to apply and become part of the Co-op family.
Newsletter- The Co-op is working with a new PR Manager whose lovely signs and designs you have begun seeing around the Co-op and social media. She’s in her 2nd week with us and is quickly getting familiar with the variety of communications the Co-op issues every month. We will also begin planning the October newsletter in the coming weeks. Exciting times!
Financials – Sarela and Wynston have been working with the Co-op management team to hone operations and grow sales to restore the Co-op to a strong financial position. Sales have been growing even though it's summer and lots of owners are on vacation. Luckily lots of folks vacation here in San Diego too and we are happy to have them shop with OB People’s while they are in town.
We are working on Ocean Beach owner promotion programs and other services for OB People’s owners that we hope to announce in September during our Owner drive, dates TBD. As People’s Co-op looks ahead to our next 50 years, we gratefully ask you to consider the following: Continue supporting your local businesses! Not just your store, but all the places that make Ocean Beach so unique. Our hearts are warmed by our owners, who continually choose People’s as their primary grocer and enjoy the high-quality products we offer. We appreciate your support, shopping at People’s Co-op keeps your dollars local. Your purchases support local suppliers, as well as an hourly staff wage and a strong benefits package for over 81 staff members.
We are proud to have been serving Ocean Beach for 49 years!
